How Magnetic Therapy Works
"We know that the magnetic pads do reduce pain and increase circulation and they've been studied for the past 50 years to try to determine the mechanism of these actions – how do they do what they claim to do?
It's been observed that nerve conduction rates are slowed down by the magnetic field. What that means is those pain messages that are going to the brain are interfered with by the magnetic field, so they're not recognized, so you don't perceive pain.
It's also been shown that vascular changes occur with the magnetic fields. Blood vessels dilate, they open up so you have a greater volume of blood flowing to the injured part, this is, of course, important in healing. Blood brings oxygen for the tissues and nutrients to promote healing, and also flushes away by-products of injury – things like bradykinins, prostaglandins and histamines; things that are implicated in pain and cause scaring if they are left to sit around the injury site.
So with those two important mechanisms, pain relief and blood flow increase going on, the use of a magnetic pad is definitely indicated in a great many athletic injuries."

Norfields MAGNETIC HockWrap
The HockWrap may be used for treating subacute or chronic condition of the hock where increased blood flow and/or pain relief is required. The lateral aspect or outside the hock acupoints (sometimes called dermatones) are useful in treating conditions such as capped hock, bog spavin and bone spavin. The points are also reflex trigger points for hips, stifle, lumbar-sacral pain of lower back region. The medial aspect or inside of hock magnetic design contains acupoints (sometimes called dermatones) useful in treating conditions such as arthritic hock and stringhalt.
Initially, Norfields MAGNETIC HockWrap should be left in place for two (2) hours, increasing the duration to a maximum of twelve (12) hours per day, over the first week of treatment. This gradual increase will afford the opportunity to accurately determine the state of the area being treated. ALWAYS MAKE SURE THE AREA IS CLEAN AND DRY. Use before and after strenuous exercise and/or competition on horses with specific conditions of the hock. Also may be used consistently during periods of lay up and injury. Always be sure to monitor and reassess your horse’s condition, then apply as needed, or as recommended by your veterinarian. Gradually reduce usage time as the symptoms lesson and the condition improves. Please be advised that the flexion of the gaskin muscle may stretch out the elastic Velcro® closures if your horse lies down. As a service, Norfields will replace the elastic but we recommend the horse wear them while standing.
Product Tips:
Use the HockWrap before competition to warm up the area, and after competition to help counteract soreness. Norfields HockWrap should be left in place for eight to ten hours during the day. Always reassess your horse’s condition after a few days of use, then apply as needed or as recommended by your veterinarian. Gradually reduce time as the symptoms lessen and the condition improves.
*As with any condition or injury, always have a veterinary practitioner diagnose your horse’s problem before treatment.
Care Instructions:
In cold weather, store your magnetic pad at room temperature to achieve maximum flexibility. Should the strip become soiled, simply hand wash band with a mild soap with warm water solution. Do not immerse or soak magnets in water. Put in the sun or naturally air dry. Do not machine wash. Do not put in dryer.
The Norfields HockWrap should not be used when the horse is being exercised or bathed. If worn during a workout, the horse could be injured further due to the tremendous buildup of heat in the area.
EQUINE Magnetic Product Line does not contain irritants or chemicals, has no side effects, and their magnetism lasts for years.
Do Not Apply …
If the horse has an acute untreated infection.
If the area is wet.
To an area that has paint, liniment or fly spray already applied.
To an area with acute injury. Cool thoroughly first.
To an injury less than 48 hours old.
To or near open wounds.
While exercising your horse.
If the horse has a metal plate, pin, or implant in the affected area.
How To Apply:

1. Place the open area over the hock joint.
2-3. Use the Velcro® closures to fasten.
4. Correct positions of wraps
5. If your horse has a straight conformation—making it difficult for the Hockwrap to stay in place—we suggest utilizing a standing bandage (see photo) below the Hockwrap to prevent slippage.
How It Works:
The patented bipolar magnets in the Hockwrap increase circulation around the hock and stimulate the acupoints of the hock and command points of the lower lumbar sacrum, helping to accelerate recovery time.
