Professional's Choice
SMx Air Ride™ Saddle Pad

"The SMx Air Ride™ (a premium priced pad) displayed superior performance with the lowest peak pressures and standard deviation. Additionally, this pad exhibited superior wicking properties both before and after use."

Wrangler®
H.D. (Heavy-Duty) Saddle Pad

"Finally, the Wrangler® SMx Air Ride™ (also a premium priced pad), which showed the most improvement in pressure testing from before - to after use, and along with the SMx Air Ride™, exhibited the best performance in peak pressure elimination and pressure distribution after use."

ESP™ Saddle Pad

"The compression testing (dead-weight testing system) revealed that under load, the ESP™ Memory Foam component of the pad completely collapsed, suggesting that the wool top and liner are the only components providing support for this premium priced pad. "

Pro-Ride Saddle Pad

"The Pro-Ride Neoprene pad ( a lower priced pad) was eliminated from the durability portion of the study due to concern regarding its construction. These concerns were supported by the data collected on this pad before use. This pad exhibited the highest average peak pressure (High peak pressure can be harmful to the horse), standard deviation and the highest resistance to compression."

Horse Trax™ Impact Gel™ Saddle Pad

"Before use, the Impact Gel® pad (a premium priced pad) exhibited mid-range performance for peak pressure elimination and pressure distribution, high resistance to compression (inflexible), and poor wicking ability. After use, this pad displayed the highest peak pressure. Although we do not know whether the pressure levels measured under this pad are harmful to the horse, this premium priced pad did not perform well."

Reinsman Saddle Pad

"The Reinsman (also a lower priced pad) did not have a distinct pattern of performance compared to the other pads. It either maintained the same level of performance or decreased in performance from before to after use, depending on the variable evaluated. Additionally, before use this pad displayed the highest wicking rate, but after use showed the largest decrease and ended up with the lowest rate. This lower priced pad seems to have provided mid-range performance when compared to other pads tested."
